K League 2 Gimpo FC and Seoul E-Land took the K League 1 team and advanced to the round of 16.
In the third round of the 2023 Hana One Q FA Cup held on the 12th, Gimpo FC and Seoul E-Land showed the rebellion of the lower leagues by catching FC Seoul and Suwon FC at home, respectively.
Gimpo allowed FC Seoul Kang Seong-jin to take the lead in the 11th minute of the second half, but Jang Yun-ho scored the equalizer in the 24th minute of the second half. The game went into overtime and penalty shootout, and Kim Min-jae’s save saved Gimpo to win 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
Seoul E-Land also won a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind 스포츠토토victory against Suwon FC. Suwon FC took the lead with Jang Jae-woong’s goal in the 21st minute of the first half, but after that Kwak Dong-joon was sent off and the flow leaned toward Seoul E-Land. In the end, with goals from Kwak Seong-wook and Bruno in the second half, Seoul E-Land advanced to the round of 16.
The remaining matches between the upper league teams and the lower league teams all ended with the upper league teams winning. Daejeon Hana Citizen, who made their first FA Cup stage after being promoted to K-League 1, won 4-1 at home against Geoje Citizen Football Club (K4). Jeju United (K1) also calmed the storm in the lower league by beating the K3 League defending champion Changwon City Hall 2-1 thanks to Koo Ja-cheol’s winning goal in extra time in the second half.
In the match between Gwangju FC (K1) and Busan I’Park (K2), which drew attention as the ‘Park Jin-seop Derby’, Gwangju won 2-1 with Lee Kun-hee’s goal in the 44th minute of the second half. Suwon Samsung (K1) and Daegu FC (K1) also advanced to the round of 16 by beating Ansan Greeners (K2) and Cheonan City (K2), respectively. Gyeongnam FC defeated Siheung Citizens Soccer Team (K3) 2-0 at Changwon Sports Complex. Paju Civic Soccer Team (K3) defeated Dangjin Civic Soccer Team (K4) with Kim Seung-chan’s winning goal and became the only surviving team in the K3 League.
In the match between K-League 2 teams, Jeonnam Dragons and Seongnam FC took away victories against Chungnam Asan and Kim Cheon Sangmu. Seongnam coach Lee Ki-hyung, who reached the round of 16 after a penalty shoot-out, faces Pohang Steelers, whose son Lee Ho-jae plays as a player, in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, the match between Gangwon FC (K1) and Chungbuk Cheongju FC (K2), which was scheduled to be held in Gangneung, was postponed due to a large forest fire in Gangneung. The match is scheduled to be played at Gangneung Sports Complex on May 2nd at 7pm.
The FA Cup Round of 16, featuring four K League 1 teams from the AFC Champions League, will be held on May 24.
