Choo Shin-soo (41-SSG Rangers) is taking a break. He’s taking a break to treat his ankle, which hasn’t fully healed, and to regroup.
“I couldn’t do it today because it was late, but I will remove Choo Shin-soo from the first team roster before the game on the 27th,” SSG coach Kim Won-hyung said before the team’s game against the Doosan Bears of the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on the 26th.안전놀이터
He continued, “Shin-soo Choo’s ankle hasn’t fully recovered, so he’s not hitting well. He said he needs time to recover, and I was thinking the same thing.”
Shin-soo Choo sprained his ankle while running the bases against the Hanwha Eagles on April 12. He was not removed from the first-team roster at the time and rested for six days. After pinch-hitting against the Lotte Giants on the 19th and 20th, he returned to the starting lineup on the 23rd against the LG Twins.
However, his batting seemed to have dropped off after the injury. In a three-game home series against LG from March 23-25, he went 0-for-10.
Kim said, “He was struggling a little bit. It wouldn’t be easy to ask him directly, but he said he needed time to regroup,” Kim said.
Shin-soo Choo said, “I need to help the team, but I’m not doing that. I’ve been thinking about it since a week ago, but I also injured my ankle.” “I can’t help because I can’t get on base. Even if I get on base, I can’t get another base. I’m not in a position to help with my batting.”
The date of his return to the first team is undetermined. Kim believes it could take more than 10 days.
“First of all, my ankle needs to be completely healed. He needs to train with the Futures (second team) and then play in the Futures League,” Kim said, adding, “We’ll have to wait and see when he can return.”
Choo Shin-soo echoed the sentiment, saying, “I’m not going to do any baseball-related training for about three to four days and just focus on my recovery.”
On the 27th, SSG will register Choi Jun-woo, who can be used as a substitute for Choo Shin-soo.
On the same day, SSG removed rookie right-handed pitcher Song Young-jin from the first team roster.
Despite being a rookie, Song managed to earn a spot on the opening day roster after making his mark in games out of the bullpen, and has been a starter since the middle of last month.
He pitched five scoreless innings against the KT Wiz on March 14 to pick up his first win, and on March 26, he threw six innings of three-run ball (two earned) to earn the win against the LG Electronics.
However, he faltered a bit this month, especially against the LG Electronics on April 25, when he gave up six runs on six hits, including a home run, in two innings and walked three.
Kim said, “Song Young-jin has good stuff, and when he came out of the bullpen at the beginning of the season, he pitched well in his first start. However, I think he was trying to be too good,” Kim said. “His pitches have been shaky lately. I think we need to find the cause, so I sent him to the second team.”
It’s unclear who will fill the void left by Song’s move to the second team.
“According to the rotation, Song Young-jin should play against the Samsung Lions on the 31st. However, there was a rain forecast on the 28th, so we haven’t made a decision yet.”
In place of Song, Lee Kun-wook was named to the first team roster. The call-up was made to compensate for the high bullpen usage on the 24th and 25th.
