‘Shoulder surgery→elbow surgery’ both returned successfully, Korean monster’s monstrous resilience

Toronto Blue Jays Ryu Hyun-jin (36) is looking forward to a successful comeback from his second Tommy John surgery (elbow ligament joint surgery) following a shoulder injury.

Ryu Hyun-jin started the game against the Cubs held at Toronto Rogers Center in Ontario, Canada on the 14th (Korean time) and won his first victory of the season by fighting hard with 2 hits, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 2 runs in 5 innings.

Ryu Hyun-jin, who underwent Tommy John surgery in June of last year, succeeded in returning to the major leagues in 13 months, which is faster than usual. In the return match against Baltimore on the 2nd, he struggled with 5 innings, 9 hits (1 home run), 1 walk, 3 strikeouts and 4 runs lost. Against Cleveland on the 8th, he pitched well with 4 innings, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, and no runs.

Ryu Hyun-jin, who was not satisfied with the previous two games, was finally able to show Ryu Hyun-jin’s style of pitching in today’s game. His highest velocity was 91.1 miles (146.6 km), which was the fastest after his return, and his main weapon changeup showed great power, striking out three. His season performance is 3 games (14 innings) 1 win 1 loss with an average ERA of 2.57.

What is surprising about Ryu Hyun-jin is that he has successfully returned from two major injuries since his major league debut. Ryu Hyun-jin, who made his big league debut in 2013, suffered a shoulder injury in 2015 and eventually underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder in May of that year. It was a fatal surgery for the pitcher’s life, but Ryu Hyun-jin successfully returned in 2017, and in 2019, he enjoyed his heyday, ranking first in the major league ERA (2.32) and ranking second in the National League Cy Young Award voting.

Ryu Hyun-jin, who suffered ups and downs in 2022 after moving to Toronto, had to undergo Tommy John surgery. Ryu Hyun-jin, who had undergone Tommy John surgery during his sophomore year of high school, had this surgery for the second time. He was 36 years old, so he was worried about a successful comeback, but he surprised everyone by returning earlier than ordinary pitchers and throwing the previous ball.

Toronto manager John Schneider said, “(Ryu Hyun-jin’s pitching) was really impressive. He did not hesitate and suppressed the opponent’s hard contact without hesitation. He did all this in just three games after returning from injury. I can’t believe he pitches like this at his age. It’s not easy, but Ryu Hyun-jin makes it easy.”

Cubs coach David Ross, who dealt with Ryu Hyun-jin that day, also said, “Ryu Hyun-jin himself has not yet reached the desired speed, but he pitched well. His changeup was awesome. From the moment he gave up the lead, he struggled to score. In order for us to score against Ryu Hyun-jin, we had to miss a miss, but he cruised as soon as the team was ahead.”

Ryu Hyun-jin, who won his first victory in 444 days since his victory over the Angels on May 27 last year (2 runs in 5 innings), broke Chan-Ho Park’s record for the oldest win by a Korean Major League player (35 years, 10 months, 13 days) at the age of 36. It was renewed at 4 months and 20 days. As for Hyun-Jin Ryu, if there are no other variables, he will continue to receive opportunities as a starting pitcher, so this record is expected to be continuously rewritten.스포츠토토
